Putting his coat on now takes at least 10 minutes. Sitting at the table and getting ready to eat seems to take forever. Getting him in the car is torture. These are just some of the downsides of Darrah’s independence. On the plus side we’re learning to deal with it better each day and hopefully he’ll either be out of this phase soon, get faster and better at doing things himself of learn to ask for help a little sooner.
We keep being told by Nursery that independence is a good thing…. well to a certain extent it is.
Both Darrah and Blake are progressing really well in all aspects of their development. Their speech is coming along well. Darrah is speaking full sentences (In Darrah language) which sometimes makes sense to the person being spoken at. Blake has been as good as gold over the past week and is doing as he’s told, eating nicely and sleeping relatively well.
Just to give you an idea of how much progress is being made, this weekend we went out to a few shops without the pram and with Darrah wearing pants. I won’t say that we’ve cracked it yet because it’s quite likely that next time we go out Darrah might leave a present on the pavement. I’ll have to remember to take my scoop.
Today at nursery Blake had a tiger painted on his face and insisted that it was a green tiger. Why not?
Also at nursery we’re hearing that Darrah is getting a little bossy and we’ve started to see it for ourselves. Picture the scene…
Blake accidentally drops some banana on the carpet. Darrah then walks up to me, tugs on my trouser leg, points at Blake and says, with a very serious face, “No Blake. Nanana on floor”.
Today we bought a new car from a dealership in Christchurch and while we were there we decided to take the boys to see the sea.
It was a little cold. Actually it would be more accurate if you changed the words “a little” for the word “very” and the word “cold” for the words “much like being in the Arctic!”
Still, the boys loved it and Mummy and Daddy got a new car. So a good trip all round.
It’s been quite a few weeks since we started trying to restrict the boys’ sleep during the day to make sure they are nice and tired at night and don’t wake too early in the morning. Getting the right balance isn’t easy.
Sometimes they end up too tired during the day and either fall asleep when they shouldn’t or end up being very grumpy. Sometimes restricting their sleep makes little or no difference and after going to bed at 9pm they still manage to wake up before 6am.
So we’re constantly honing their night and day time sleep patterns. The plan very soon is to stop their day time sleeps all together and then they’ll go to bed before 7pm and we’ll have to wake them up in the morning. Hang on… I don’t believe it… I’ve just seen a flying pig!
