Today we bought a new car from a dealership in Christchurch and while we were there we decided to take the boys to see the sea.
It was a little cold. Actually it would be more accurate if you changed the words “a little” for the word “very” and the word “cold” for the words “much like being in the Arctic!”
Still, the boys loved it and Mummy and Daddy got a new car. So a good trip all round.
It’s been quite a few weeks since we started trying to restrict the boys’ sleep during the day to make sure they are nice and tired at night and don’t wake too early in the morning. Getting the right balance isn’t easy.
Sometimes they end up too tired during the day and either fall asleep when they shouldn’t or end up being very grumpy. Sometimes restricting their sleep makes little or no difference and after going to bed at 9pm they still manage to wake up before 6am.
So we’re constantly honing their night and day time sleep patterns. The plan very soon is to stop their day time sleeps all together and then they’ll go to bed before 7pm and we’ll have to wake them up in the morning. Hang on… I don’t believe it… I’ve just seen a flying pig!
When we went to collect the boys from Nursery we were asked if we’d be happy to try Darrah without a nappy. The conversation went something like this…
Nursery Staff :
Would you like to try Darrah without a nappy tomorrow.
Us :
We don’t think it’s the right time.
Nursery Staff :
It would only be during his time in Nursery.
Us :
So you’d deal with all the training and mess.
Nursery Staff :
Yes.
Us :
Sounds like a great idea. We were just saying that it would be the perfect time for Darrah.
So yesterday Darrah’s Nursery bag was loaded with half a dozen spare changes of clothes and eight “Roary the Racing Car” pants. One for every hour at Nursery. By all accounts his first pants day went very well. His Nursery bag is now fully loaded for another day. This potty training lark is easy.
I’ve posted very few blog entries over the past month because I’ve been spending all my free time creating the boys’ new playroom. I’ve been exercising my rusty woodworking skills to create a few bespoke storage units for their toys. It’s also allowed me to be a bit creative and paint a mural on the wall although at the moment it needs quite a bit more work as it’s not looking quite how I expected.
I hope to have it completed by next week and let the boys run riot in there. Electrics, heating and lighting are all finished. Safety in the room has been a primary focus. If you saw the way they run around you’d know why. It’s not quite a padded cell but I have had to round off any corners. I even had to make specially rounded window sills to avoid another trip to A&E.
In other news…
Darrah and Blake really enjoyed the snow. Fortunately their nursery was open throughout the bad weather so they were able to throw snowballs and make snowmen with their friends.
Their language is really progressing now and there is starting to be more and more recognisable conversation between then.
Darrah is still into his wrestling. Jumping on his brother at any available opportunity. Blake puts up with it fairly well although it eventually gets out of hand. Blake starts pushing Darrah. Darrah pushes back, laughs and runs off. Blake screws up his face, shouts “DARRAH!”, runs after his brother….. and so on until parental intervention is required.
Bath times are becoming steadily wetter for myself and Wendy-Ann. They are now washing their own hair by pouring water from a bottle over their own heads, their brother’s head, the taps, carpet, nearest parent. You get the idea.
